The VOLIERA project includes seven work packages, as here illustrated.

WP1.1 Goals
|
- To ensure efficient coordination of the project with the Technical Management Team;
- To coordinate the technical work of the various WPs in order to keep the alignment with the overall objectives of the project;
- To ensure efficient overall administrative and financial management of the project;
|
WP1.2 Goals
|
- To define User Requirements (i.e. Infrastrastructure Manager and Railway Undertaking) associated with the ERTMS standard solutions;
- To define the Voliera Concept the application domain, and the purpose of the Voliera system;
- To identify the functional operational scenarios.
|
WP1.3 Goals
|
To perform the analysis of the state of the art of the hardware and software technologies for absolute and relative position sensors as well as for odometry sensors applicable to railway applications in the context of the Voliera concept. The main technologies investigated will be:
- GNSS phase measurement monitoring techniques as FDE;
- IMU technologies, LIDAR and optical technology with focus on the LIDAR and light field imaging devices available or potentially available with a gap analysis for railway applications;
- IMU, Image and Video processing algorithms and techniques that can be used forfusing the inputs acquired by the identified potential sensor chains (e.g. opticmodule composed by LIDAR and light field camera) To identify and analyses the current standards and regulations relevant for theapplication of the proposed technologies in the Voliera concept
|
WP1.4 Goals
|
To characterize the selected technologies in a railway environment by using the RFI/STS Trial Site.
In particular the main tasks will be:
- Preparation of the field campaign
- Field measurement and data collection
- Data post-processing
|
WP1.5 Goals
|
- To identify the System Requirements
- To define the System Functional Architecture and the apportionment of therequirements to the low level functional blocks
- To identify the different segments (on-board train, trackside, space segment,ground segment, and user segment) and the functions allocated to them in theidentified fail-safe signalling solutions
- To Complement the technological capability gaps and to define the Verification and Experimental Plan
|
WP1.6 Goals
|
- To Provide proof of technical feasibility for the Voliera Functional Chains.
- To Perform simulations which can determine whether system requirements can besatisfied through the proposed system architecture and Voliera Functional Chains.
|
WP1.7 Goals
|
- To perform an evaluation of the economic sustainability of the solution, in terms ofthe economic and/or strategic convenience for the main players involved, whichincludes non-monetary elements such as in terms of safety and environmental sustainability.
- The Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) will be applied on both the local lines and the regional lines.
